What is Salem Horror Fest?

Salem Horror Fest is a celebration of the horror genre in the Halloween-capital of the world: Salem, Massachusetts. Our mission is to explore how scary stories reflect cultural anxieties to better understand the mechanics of fear.

Is it a film festival?

Yes but that’s not all. In addition to premieres and repertory film screenings, Salem Horror Fest offers panel discussions, live podcasts, celebrity meet & greets, concerts, art exhibits and more. We are the SXSW of horror! You can view the current lineup of events here.

Where does Salem Horror Fest take place?

Events are held at multiple venues throughout the downtown district such as CinemaSalem, Peabody Essex Museum, Salem Waterfront Hotel, Count Orlok’s Nightmare Gallery, and the Salem Maritime National Historic Visitor Center.

What is Haunted Harbor?

This is our exhibition floor that coincides with the festival located at the Salem Waterfront Hotel. More akin to horror conventions, Haunted Harbor features a marketplace of vendors with opportunities to meet some of your favorite celebrities. Haunted Harbor will also host parties and additional programming. You can view the current lineup of guests, vendors and events here.

There are many hotel options on Rt. 1 and the surrounding towns such as Peabody and Danvers that are only 20 minutes away by car. A complete list of options can be found here.

Is there parking available in Salem?

If you are driving, it is important to know that parking in Salem in October can be hard to find.  The Museum Place Garage and the Church Street lot are the two parking options that are closest to the venues we use but they are usually full this time of the year.  If you are unable to park there, we recommend parking at the garage at the Commuter Rail station.  Please note that the garage is a 10-15 minute walk away from our venues.  The address for the Commuter Rail garage is 252 Bridge St.  Additional parking options and information can be found here.
