The Great Salem Pumpkin Walk

As part of the Haunted Happenings Wicked Wednesdays initiative, the purpose of this family friendly event is to unite the Salem business community in an effort to drive midweek visitors, sales and engagement. Participating locations designated as "anchor zones" around the downtown perimeter will manage a public pumpkin display with opportunities for visitors, tourists and locals alike to create, play, and enjoy.

All businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate and will be listed on a walking map distributed to visitors. The anchor zones will be managed by a site leader to ensure commitment and confidence in the program.

Each zone will partner with a local college, primary school and event producer to crowdsource a collection of some kind of pumpkin art through donations and volunteer participation. Possible activities and entertainment could include spooky story readings, live music, traditional Halloween games, tarot readings, pumpkin carving and art-making.

A map will be created to signify designated pumpkin clusters and participating businesses creating an organic scavenger hunt with the support of a hashtag campaign. All participating businesses will be included on the walking map if submitted before the print deadline.

  • Simply commit to providing some kind of pumpkin display at your business on Wednesday, October 10th by submitting this form! Deadline is September 15th.
  • Sponsorships are also available. Proceeds go towards pumpkins, supplies, printing and disposal and are tax deductible via Salem Main Streets.
